Farm Safety Considerations

When you do come to visit Finnriver Farm, here are some considerations to keep in mind for your safety and enjoyment:

  • We do keep bees on the farm, for pollination and honey. And sometimes a wasp nest forms in one of the blueberry bushes. Dress in plain colored clothes so the bees don’t mistake you for a flower and keep still if a bee comes towards you to avoid upsetting it. If you are allergic to bee stings, bring appropriate medications with you.
  • We share the farm with other creatures as well: goats, bunnies, chickens and a farm dog named Pippin. We ask you to enjoy all of these animals from a safe distance and to avoid getting too close or touching the animals.
  • We also ask you to keep a safe distance from all farm equipment and machinery, such as tractors and mowers. This may be hardest for aspiring young equipment operators (the children) but please make sure your kids stay safe by accompanying them at all times on the farm.
  • We have several neighbors whose homes are connected to the farm. Please respect their personal property and space.
  • We are fortunate to have Chimacum Creek meandering through the farm. This is a salmon stream and is currently undergoing re-forestation and restoration. The creek area is not open to the public.
  • Remember, this is a working farm and so the ground may be lumpy and bumpy; the irrigation hoses may be dripping; the shovels may be at rest in a field. Please watch your step.

Thanks and enjoy!
